“Clothing, food, and housing are essential for living and most of all, housing is most frequently used for my work. We cannot live without houses.”
This series revolves around the roof tiles and Eastern style stone fences. J Young uses Korean ink and sand graphite to produce regular yet irregular brushstrokes, creating repeating geometrical figures.
The development of science and technology has contributed to a variety of architectural constructs, however, they are still as essential as traditional houses are to us. He often uses simple tone such as a deep black tone together with mud or soil, the colour from nature, to depict the essentiality of houses, just like clothes and food to human.
